Water in the house right now?
Do this first
- Shut off the water at the fixture or at the main, usually in a box near the street, only if you can do it safely.
- Stay out of water near outlets, appliances or the electrical panel, and out of any room with a sagging ceiling.
- Keep children and pets away from sewage or water of unknown origin.
- Take photos and note when you first noticed the damage.
- Don't assume it is dry because the floor looks dry. On a slab, water hides under the flooring and inside the walls.

Water keeps moving after the leak stops
Most Frisco homes are two-storey brick-veneer houses from the last 25 years, built on slab foundations over clay soil, with the plumbing and often the water heater in the attic. That layout puts the water above the living space: a split attic line or a failed tank drains through the ceiling and down the walls, and the slab below stops it draining away. Add winter freezes, spring hail and a foundation that shifts with the soil, and there are plenty of ways for water to get where it shouldn't.
Whatever started it, the goal is the same: stop more damage and find out how far the water has really travelled. That takes moisture readings, not a look and a guess, and drying until the readings say dry.

What good work looks like
What to expect from a restoration contractor
Whoever you hire, these are fair things to expect and to ask about.
Readings, not guesses
Moisture meters show what is wet behind walls, above ceilings and under floors, and when it is finally dry.
A written scope and price
What will be removed, dried and replaced, and what it costs, before work starts.
Safety first
Electrical hazards, sagging ceilings and contaminated water are dealt with before cleanup starts.
Documentation
Photos, readings and notes you can give your insurer.
Mitigation vs repair
Drying and cleanup are one stage; rebuilding is another, often quoted separately.
Insurance and licences you can check
Texas doesn't license restoration contractors, so ask for proof of insurance and references. Mold remediators need a TDLR licence and plumbers a TSBPE licence.

Questions
What people ask
Are you a restoration company?
No. We don't run our own crews. Water Damage Restoration Frisco is a referral service: we connect you with an independent local restoration company, which does the inspection, gives the estimate and does the work. See our referral disclosure.
Does it cost anything to call?
No. Our service is free to you. The restoration company may pay us for the referral. Whatever you agree with them is between you and that company.
Does the contractor need a licence in Texas?
Texas has no state licence for general or water damage restoration contractors, so ask for proof of liability insurance and recent local references instead. Two trades that often come up are licensed: mold remediators by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation and plumbers by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners. Ask for those licence numbers where they apply.
How quickly should water damage be dealt with?
As soon as it is safe. Water keeps moving into walls, ceilings and cabinets after the leak stops, and in a warm house mold can start within a day or two. Early drying usually means less has to be torn out.
Does homeowners insurance pay for water damage?
It depends on your policy and the cause. Sudden, accidental leaks are often covered; slow leaks, flooding from outside and sewer backups often aren't unless you have the right endorsement. Many Texas policies also carry a separate, higher deductible for wind and hail. Call your insurer early and keep photos.
Do I have to leave my home?
Usually not. It depends on how much is affected, whether there is contamination, and whether the kitchen and bathrooms are usable. The contractor will tell you after the inspection.
